Christian Values in the Workplace

Session 2

As Christians we are to be godly examples in our workplace. Two areas in which we must exemplify are character, in how we act, and production, in how we work.

Values of Character

#1 Generosity

  • As Christians we should be generous with our time, money, and energy. Proverbs 22:9 ESV “Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.”

#2 Peacemaking

  • #2 Peacemaking No matter where you are, it is easy to engage in petty conflict. Conflict is unavoidable but that does not mean we are to escalate or stir up trouble. Romans 12:18 ESV “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”

#3 Total reliance on God

  • It is easy to set our hearts on earthly things. We need money to provide for ourselves or our families, but we must remember that God is our ultimate provider.
  • 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV “As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.”

1# Wise and Prepared

  • It is important to be an individual of wisdom. We have the opportunity in the workplace to be the leading in our field.
  • Proverbs 21:5 ESV “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”

#2 Financially integrity

  • No matter what job you are in, money is involved. You are either handling your own personal income or the revenue of your company.
  • Romans 13:7 ESV “Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.”

#3 Diligent for the glory of God

  • We must be diligent workers in order to glorify the Lord. Our work performance can be a direct reflection on the Lord.
  • Colossians 3:23-24 ESV “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
