PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Christians as well as Muslims believe in one God. The name of God as found in the Bible is Jehovah (Psalm 83:18). Muslims also believe in one all-powerful God and believe Him to be called Allah.
Some of the basic beliefs of Christians are that God sent his son, Jesus, to the earth as a ransom for our sins so that our sins can be forgiven and so that we can live forever peacefully on earth. 1John 2:2, Revelation 21:4.
Muslims do not believe that Jesus is God's son or that God has a son. Some of the basic beliefs of Islam are God created the earth, universe, and all life Christians also believe this. The Qur'an is believed to be God's message through his angel Gabriel to his prophet Muhammad.
The theme of the Bible is God's kingdom. The Bible is used to learn about God, to help others about God and to learn to serve God acceptably. The theme of the Qur'an is God's laws, standards and rules of the Islamic faith.
For Christians the Bible tells us what God finds acceptable and what he disapproves of. The Bible also helps us learn about God. The Bible is used to help Christians live according to God's standards. The Qur'an focuses on the need to worship God and to give Him the praise He deserves. In order to be acceptable to Him Muslims believe that they need to live by the 5 Pillars of Islam which are; belief, worship, fasting, almsgiving and pilgrimage.
There are 66 books of the Bible. The Bible is split into books, chapters and then verses (or stanzas for Psalms). The Bible is also split up in two sections; The Hebrew-Aramaic scriptures and the Christian-Greek scriptures. The book of Genesis contains the creation account, next is Exodus which tells about the Israelites exodus of Egypt. In the Cristian-Greek scriptures are located the four Gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These focus on the events of Jesus's earthly life and ministry. The Qur'an is comprised of 114 Surahs divided into 30 Juz (or blocks). The Surahs go in the order of longest to shortest.
