CHRISTMAS’S AROUND THE WORLD
Some Canadian Christmas traditions are a roast turkey with vegetables and mash potatoes. The traditional desserts are Christmas/ plum puddings and mince meat tarts.
Canadians also like to eat sweets on Christmas. These sweets are called barley candy and chicken candies.
Barley candy a type of lollie shaped like a Christmas Santa, snowmen and other Christmas related things. But chicken bones is a pink sweets the tastes like cinnamon and it melts in your mouth and it reveals a chocolate creamy inside.
Japan normally celebrates on Christmas Eve. People also believe that Christmas is a romantic day. Japan also normally eats fried chicken from KFC. In 1974 there was an advertising campaign that was called Kentucky for Christmas. They also like to eat sponge cake with strawberries and whipped cream.
Venezuela has traditional music called Gaita. This folk music comes from the Zulia State. They also play with Cuatro, tamboura, furro, charrasca.
Venezuela also eats Hallacas’ a mixture of meat. Its then tied up with string into a parcel and boiled or steamed. They also get presents by San Nicolás and Nino Jesus. They also plaint their houses.
Christmas was banned in 1929 and Christmas trees were banned until 1935 and were renamed new year trees. If you wanted o celebrate Christmas in Russia you would have to do it secretly. But in 1991 people free to celebrate Christmas but its still quiet. Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January very little people celebrate on the 25th.
People like to go Christmas carolling is the streets with drums, triangles and model boats. If the kids sing well they might get money or things to eat like nuts, candy or dried figs. People make a special recipes to keep evil spirits that turn up on the 12 day period to epiphany(January 6th)
Christmas is big part of Germany they ove using advent calendars. Tree are also very important. Germany has a big passion for christmas.
Belgium receives presents on the 5th and 6th of December . Children would leave their shoes out and Santa leaves presents in them. A traditional breakfast is baked rolls with butter and cold meat or jam. These are called koffiekoek meaning coffee cakes.
People starting decorating for Christ as on the 7th of December in the evening this known as the ‘day of the little candles’. The main meal at christmas would be pork stuffed with rice and peas, cheesy fritters, a thick dish mad of corn. A fried pastry.
Christmas isn’t celebrated very much in India. Small pastries, toffee and other treats. Some people in India have a massive feast.
Christmas is quite big in Switzerland, people also go in a parade wearing cow bells and carrying drums. The main meal would be a ham and scalloped potatoes with cheese and then baked.the desert would be walnut cake and christmas cookies. They also really like fondue.
