  • He was almost killed on his first voyage

REASONS FOR EXPLORATION

  • Columbus want to find a new route to the Far East, India, China, Japan, and the Spice Islands.
  • Later on, he was sent back to the "New World" to get gold.

DESCRIPTION OF EXPLORATION

  • He first sailed August 3, 1492.
  • There was 3 ships: The Santa Maria, The Pinta, and The Nina.
  • They ended up in a layover at the Canary Islands.
  • Columbus landed on the Bahamas and then went to Cuba.
  • The captain of the Pinta split form the group to search for gold.

  • Columbus didn't find the adventure for gold on the islands worth the trip.
  • On Dec. 24 and 25 the Santa Maria was hit and sank.
  • Columbus used the wreckage to create a fort called Christmas.
  • Discovered the "New World" October 12, 1942
  • (Columbus day is celebrated every second monday in October)
