BIOGRAPHY

  • Born Feb. 14, 1819
  • Died feb. 1890
  • After he went to school he was apprenticed as a printer
  • 4 years later he became editor of the wisconsin enquirer, in madison
  • This started a life of many newspapers

CONTINUED

  • Was in charge of southports newspaper
  • Soon entered politics, served in the state presentation
  • Later went in charge of milwaukee news and later the Milwaukee Sentinel

INVENTION

  • He invented the first practical typewriter
  • Also the QWERTY keyboard which is still in use today
  • His inventions helped the paper and writing businesses
  • Made his papers better than the rest

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

  • The typewriter lead into later inventions
  • Such as the keyboard and computor
  • Without his invention we might not have some of the technology today
