The quote is revealing Thoreau's rhetorical purpose by showing how Walden had decided to go to the woods to find his true self. To learn from no one but the world around him in the woods. Even though it wasn't safe to be there it allowed him to have his eyes opened to the rich lessons we neglect everyday.

Quote- “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”

The fact that Walden didn't feel lonesome nor the need to be closer toward civilization is a clear showing that he is determined to learn on his own. Without anyone telling him what is right or what is wrong. If all people had the confidence and courage he had than there would be noise who would be scared to find their true self.



Quote- "I should think you would feel lonesome down there, and want to be nearer to folks, rainy and snowy days and nights especially.” ”

This quote has a much deeper meaning than most may think. We all believe that heaven is above us and is only attainable after death. But the truth is that we are surrounded by heaven everyday, for every day we wake up heaven may be beneath our feet or may be well over our heads.

This quote reflects on the idea that the changing in weather is just like that of how our emotions and feelings change rapidly. Some days we are stormy or sad, and maybe others it's sunny meaning we feel happy and blessed to be alive. But when you reach the happy state, you must take advantage of it and learn more about how to prolongue that happiness to be eternal.

When we fall into doing what is normal we get comfortable and lose touch of being who we truly are. It isn't on purpose it's just when we fall into the state of sadness, what we know as comfortable brings us all comfort in some way. It allows us to convince ourselves that no matter what caused the sadness, we can overcome it. But change is always a good thing that we need more of. It allows us to learn more about not just ourselves but others all around us.
