During the past twenty years, the number of circulation transactions at academic libraries in the United States has decreased significantly. For example, the U.S. Department of Education reported that academic libraries throughout the country had 230.7 million circulation transaction in 1996. But by 2012, that number had fallen to 154.4 million circulation transactions – a 33% decrease.

Question:

What do you think are two or three developments that resulted in lower circulation transactions for academic libraries during this period? How do you propose Weis Library respond to these factors so as to maximize usage of its resources by students and faculty?
