4 COMPONENTS OF BLOOD

  • Platelets-Irregularly shaped bodies with sticky surfaces that forms clots to stop bleeding.
  • Platelets only live 5-9 days and they are fragments of cells.
  • White blood cells- Are twice as large as red blood cells.
  • They can digest foreign organisms such as viruses and bacteria.
  • White blood cells have nucleuses, can divide, and create antibodies.

HOW DOES SMOKING EFFECT THE HEART?

  • There is an addictive substance in cigarettes called tobacco.
  • Smoking effect all organs in the body, especially the lung&heart.
  • Cigarettes damage the function of your heart and the structure of
  • your blood vessels. Smoking is a major risk factor for heart disease,
  • atherosclerosis, chest pain, heart attack, heart failure, and P.A.D.

  • Plasma-Is the fluid blood.
  • It is 90% water, 10% sugar fats, proteins, and salt or sugar.
  • Plasma is 55% of the blood and maintains blood pressure.
  • Red blood cells- Have 120 day life span and are most numerous
  • The shape of a red blood cells allows it to bend and squeeze through tight places.

HOW TO REDUCE THE RISK OF HEART PROBLEMS

  • One of the best ways to reduce your risk of heart
  • problems is not to smoke or to stop smoking if you already do.
  • Did you know that cigarette smoking causes 1 in every 5
  • deaths in the U.S each year? For most people, smoking poses an
  • even greater risk for the heart.
