Civil engineering deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and natural environment e.g. roads, bridges and buildings.

Without civil engineers, a society could not function, and because of the important work they do, civil engineering graduates are always in great demand & are also well paid for the work they do.

THE EIFFEL TOWER
Designed by Gustave Eiffel, The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world: 6.98 million people in 2011.

During WWII, when Hitler visited Paris, the French cut the lift cables on the Eiffel Tower so that Hitler would have to climb the steps if he wanted to reach the top.

Inventor Franz Reichelt died by jumping from the Eiffel Tower while testing a parachute of his own design.

1,665 steps are needed to climb all the way to the top of the Eiffel Tower, and there are 20, 000 light bulbs.

PYRAMIDS OF GIZA
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The designations of the pyramids(Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure) correspond to the kings for whom they were built.

The question of how the pyramids were built has not received a wholly satisfactory answer. The most plausible one is that the Egyptians employed a sloping and encircling embankment of brick, earth, and sand, which was increased in height and in length as the pyramid rose; stone blocks were hauled up the ramp by sledges, rollers, and levers.
