What I learned about the Ku Klux Klan is that they were against integration. They would burn crosses in African-Americans front yard. What is happening in this picture is that the Ku Klux Klan is hosting a march to keep on segregating. The significance of this picture is all the people attended and they are following along with the horrible action. Ku Klux Klansmen and white parents would teach there children to hate the African-Americans.

I learned that Ruby family worked on a farm. They were sharecroppers, which means they didn't own the land, they would pay the landowner rent. They payed the landowner in the crops they harvested. They struggled to survive with all the crops they had leftover. This picture is significant because it is a farm they a poor family probably lived on at one point. Ruby's family was poor and didn't have much food to survive. They had to survive in harsh conditions including, the hot sun of Mississippi, not having much food, and lastly living in a small home with Ruby's Dad's family.

I learned that William Frantz was a segregated school until Ruby integrated it.William Frantz had no African-Americans until Ruby came. Ruby had to take a test to attend William Frantz, Ruby passed the test and the governor Jimmie Davis did not agree with the decision to integrate schools. He wanted the exact opposite of integration. The significance of this picture is that this is the school William Frantz that Ruby Bridges integrated in the first grade.

I learned that the riots in New Orleans were horrible and caused lots of damage. In riots, some people even died. People would throw rocks and bricks at passing cars. They would also throw bottles of gasoline that were on fire at cars, as you can infer, that makes a car blow up. The hospital rooms began to fill up when there was a riot. The significance of this picture is that is a riot that is going on. The smoke is probably from the exploded cars.

What I learned about Ruby Bridges and Mrs. Henry's relationship is that it was very strong. Mrs. Henry was Ruby's first grade teacher at William Frantz. Ruby was Mrs. Henry's only student because when Ruby was there the other kids either did not show up to school or they would be in a different classroom. As Mrs. Henry's only student they began to bond and build a close relationship. The significance of this picture is that Ruby and Mrs. Henry met up again forty years later. That's how close those two are, most people don't meet up later in life with their first grade teacher forty years ago.
