COMPROMISE OF 1850
Date: January 21,1850
Description: California to the Union and New Mexico & Utah decide to be a slave state or not.
Increased Sectionalism: The south didn't like the decision.

FUGITIVE SLAVE ACT
Date: 1850
Description: Required Northerners to help catch runaway slaves.
Increased Sectionalism: Made Northerners mad because the didn't want to have to support slavery.

UNCLE TOM'S CABIN
Date: 1851
Description: A book made with powerful emotions about slavery.
Increased Sectionalism: Made millions of people more angry about slavery.

KANSAS-NEBRASKA ACT
Date: 1854
Description: Two territories that people can vote if they want the state to be slavery or not.
Increased Sectionalism: The south were mad.

BLEEDING KANSAS
Date: May 21, 1856
Description: The state got to vote if it should be a free state or not.
Increased Slavery: Made anti-slavery people fight.

DRED SCOTT DECISION
Date: March 6 1857
Description: Made his way to the north to be free but was unsuccessful because he wasn't a citizen.
Increased Sectionalism: Slaves couldn't be free.

HARPER'S FERRY
Date: 1859
Description: John Brown creating an uprising to end slavery, but fouled and died.
Increased Sectionalism: Abolitionist were mad.

ELECTION OF 1860
Date: December 20, 1860
Description: Abraham Lincoln was elected as president.
Increased Sectionalism: The south got mad so they seceded. Then the civil war started.
