  • Henry hoped the compromise had worked, but it didn't.
  • The debate grew bigger and bigger each year.

  • The North were horrified by slavery.
  • South wanted to buy Cuba, so the could have another slave state.

  • Settlers came to Kansas, either to oppose or support slavery.
  • People raised money, so they could destroy the presses.

  • 1857
  • The Supreme Court was concerned about a slave.

  • John brown had a plan to seize federal arsenal.

  • There was some violence that was disrupting the Sumner.
  • They plotted Kansas a slave state.

  • Douglas created 2 new territories Nebraska and Kansas.

LINCOLN DOUGLAS DEBATES

  • 1858
  • They saw that the nation could split into slave and free states.
  • Lincoln challenged douglas about slavery and he agreed.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN

  • 1860
  • Lincoln was elected president.
  • Lincoln won with only 40%.
  • More votes were from the North.
  • Only 10 were from the South.
