• Northerners had to help catch runaway slaves
• Northerners were mad they didn't want slavery

UNCLE TOMS CABIN

• 1850
• A story about a slave that was beaten to death
• The story made people horrified

KANSAS-NEBRASKA ACT

• May 30, 1854
• The people of NB and KS got to choose if they are a slave state or not
• North were honted by visions of slavery marching across the plains

BLEEDING KANSAS

• May 21, 1854
• People moved to Kansas just to mess up the disunion of if KS is a slave state or not
• Men were killing each other over it

DRED SCOTT DECISION

• 1857
• African Americans could not be citizens of the US
• Pro slavery people just got mader

ELECTION OF 1860

• Lincoln won the election. The south was mad so they left
• Because south didn't want Lincoln as president but the north did
• 1860

POPULAR SOVEREIGNTY

• Each state got to decide if there state was a slave state or not
• It became VERY clear who wanted there state to be a slave state or not
