Northwest Ordinance or 1787.
Law passed by congress
allowing people to settle in the northwest. Restricted slave owners to settle in the northwest.

MISSOURI COMPROMISE 1820
Law protibiting slavery in the Louisiana territory with the exception of Missouri.
The people was it as a simple solution but not a long term solution.

Texas Annexation-1845
The republic added Texas as the 28th state. American immigrants from the south began to immigrate due to the northern frontier of Mexican Texas.

Mexican American War-1846
Polk offered to buy California and the rest of Mexico. Mexicans refused to give up more land. Created conflict between the people.

Wilmot Provisio-1846
Idea proposed to the House of Representatives. Passed but failed in the Senate. Proposed slavery to be banned in all territories. Agitated the south thinking it was an attack on slavery.

Free Soil Party-1848
Whigs and democrats created the free soil party. There's and area of free soil where there's no slavery. Started conflict between southerners.

Fugitive Slave Law-1850
Created conflict between the north and south because the northerners thought the new slave law was unfair.

Compromise of 1850
Bill passed to stop confront action between the south. Who supported slaves and free states of the north. Settled problems of slavery only satisfying the south. Made the north and south argue.

Republican Party-1854
Party that was founded to avoid the spreading of slavery. Opposed slavery and further divided the north and south.

Kansas Nebraska Act-1854
Congress made this act to add 2 new states. Caused fights between the north and south.

Bleeding Kansas-1854
Pro slavery and anti slavery people flooded into Kansas fighting for control.
Made more conflict between the north and south.

Dred Scott Decisions-1857
Scottwas aslaved owned by an army doctor. Livedib 2 free slave areas. Sued the doctor for his freedom. Caused people to join abolitionist causes.

Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln got voted as president. Help the north with the struggle of manpower. Helped the north with their weaknesses. He wanted the country to be 1.

South Carolina Secedes From the Union-1860
Didn't like the rules on slavery and religious/political parties the north had. Several other states left the union also.
