CIVILIAN CONVERSATION CORPS (CCC)

The Civilian Conversation Corps was founded on April 5, 1933.

PURPOSE

  • It gave young men jobs during the Great Depression.
  • Jobs such as: fought forest fires, planted trees, cleared and maintained access roads, reseeded grazing lands, implanted soil erosion controls, build wildlife refuges, fish rearing facilities, water storage basins, animal sheltes, etc.

WHO DID IT AFFECT/BENEFIT

  • 10% were black people
  • September 1935 over 500,000 young men
  • 3 million men were in the CCC army's experience which helped in World War 2

SUCCESFUL

  • Approximately 125,000 miles of roads constructed
  • 46,854 bridges constructed
  • More than 3,000 looking fire towers built
  • 318,076 check dams built for erosion control
  • More than 8 million hours of fighting fires
  • 33,087 miles of terracing implented
  • About 89,000 miles of telephone wiring
  • Thousands of miles of hiking trails
  • Improved wildlife habitats
  • Laid pipe and performed excavation work on canals and ditches
  • Etc

  • Didn't last long
  • Was going to fast
  • Some people disagreed with his decisions
