TROPICAL

Tropical areas are mostly hot and humid. These areas mostly have palm trees.

SUBTROPICAL

Hot, usually humid summers and mild to cool winters.

Mostly has mountains and plateaus.

SUBPOLAR

Long, usually very cold winters, and short, cool to mild summers.

POLAR
lack of warm summers. Every month in a polar climate has an average temperature of less than 10 °C (50 °F).

TEMPERATE
The temperatures in these regions are generally relatively moderate, rather than extremely hot or cold, and the changes between summer and winter are also usually moderate.

CLIMATE TYPES MAP

HOW CLIMATES ARE AFFECTED BY

  • Bodies of water
  • bodies of water act as moderating factors on the climate.
  • Alitude
  • Altitude affects climate in that the higher up you get, the more the temperature drops.
  • Latitude

The higher latitude you go, or closer you get to the north pole, the colder the climate is, and the lower latitude you go, or the closer to the equator you get, the warmer and more tropical the climate becomes.

wind is caused by differences in air temperature which cause convection: as the air heats up, all of the molecules in the air rise up and expand, while cooler air sinks and rushes in to take its place.
