PRESENTATION OUTLINE
WHAT IS A CLOUD FOREST?
- Also called fog forest;
Is a type of eco system generally tropical.
- Moist forest characterized by a persistent, frequent cloud cover, usually at the canopy level.
- Cloud forests only occur at certain high altitudes
CLIMATE
- Annual rainfall can range from 500 to 10,000 mm/year and the temperatures vary between 8 to 20 °C. That means that the land is left extremely humid, and causes precipitation.
- And precipitation plus sunlight causes the fog.
SPECIES
- The high moisture promotes the development of a high biomass and biodiversity of plants and different types of flowers. Like; orchids, fynbos and others.
- There are not only plants there, but also a diversity of animals.

FACTS
- Only 1% of the global woodland consists of cloud forests.
- Could be called fog forest, mossy forest, or even dwarf cloud forest.
- If you ever visit any fog forest, you will find many birds around you.
- One of the world’s most delicate ecosystem
HOW HAVE CLOUD FORESTS CHANGE THROUGH THE YEARS AND WHY.
- Cloud forests have experienced extreme negative changes in the past 10 years.
- The main reason why cloud forests are becoming extinct is because of global warming.
- For example, some species might become extinct quickly when they lose their habitat, but for others, like trees, it can take centuries.
Untitled Slide
- In comparison with lower tropical moist forests, cloud forests show a reduced tree stature combined with increased stem density and generally the lower diversity of woody plants.
