When can we use it?

Purpose

Steps of Cloze Precedure

• Select a passage from a book or story that the students have already read.
• The first sentence rewritten exactly as it was in the book or story.
• For the second sentence choose one of the first five words and replace it with a blank.
• Do so with every fifth word in the passage.
• Complete the cloze activity.
• Students will read the passage to themselves, using context clues to fill in the blanks.
• Score the students work by taking the number of answers correct divided by the total number of blanks.
