INSULATOR DEFINED

An insulator is something that heat can't travel through easily. Some examples of an insulator would be news paper, foam, calc, and styrofoam.

QUESTION

What design of insulated box will keep Mr. Larsen's coke cold the longest?

HYPOTHESIS

If we make a box that has wood on the outside and styrofoam on the inside with a duct tape lock it will keep the warm air out and the cool air in.

DESIGN

Our box will include a wooden framing with a styrofoam layer on the inside to insulate everything.
It will be made mainly with duct tape to make sure that there are minimal cracks.

PROCEDURES

  • We will first bring all the materials
  • Then we will actually make the wooden framing
  • We will then add/cut the styrofoam
  • Make all cracks filled

MATERIALS

  • Styrofoam
  • Duct tape
  • Wooden boards
  • Glue (just in case)

COKE CHALLENGE DATA

CONCLUSION

My team's box didn't win because of some flaws that we either forgot to add or didn't have enough time to implement. But it did come in about 3rd place!

I LEARNED...

I learned that in making an insulated anything you need to always insulate everything you can think of. Ours wasn't insulated at the top and bottom of our box so heat could enter that way.
