CONTAINMENT
U.S. Policy of preventing spread of communism

MARSHALL PLAN
A plan designed by the U.S. To help Europe recover economically after World War II

NATO
A military alliance of nations to provide a mutual defense

WARSAW PACT
A1955 military alliance of communist nations between Eastern Europe nations and the USSR

ARMS RACE
Competition between nations for the accumulation of weapons-mostly between the U.S. And the Soviet Union

CULTURAL REVOLUTION
Period of political persecution in China from 1966 to 1976

KOREAN WAR
A war fought in 1950 between North Korea(Communist) and South Korea(Non-Communist). The Soviet and Chinese supported the North while the U.S. And UN supported the south

VIET CONG
A Communist-led army and guerrilla force in South Vietnam that fought its government and was supported by North Vietnam.

VIETNAM WAR
War between North and South Vietnam from the early 1950s to 1975

DOMINO THEORY
Belief that if one state in a region(Vietnam) came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries(The rest of Asia) would follow in a domino effect

COVERT ACTION
a secret action undertaken to influence the course of political events, as a government intelligence operation

DÉTENTE
The easing of hostility or strained relations, especially between nations, as by negotiations or agreements

DETERRENCE
Maintaining military power to discourage other nations from attacking

HOW DID THE COLD WAR CHANGE THE WORLD?
Nations were brought to different sides. Many governments changed and this affected these nations. It shaped political and economic systems. People migrated places from all over the world and the Cold War also promoted the development of new and advanced technology.
