Immigration

as a proxy for discrimination
Immigration as a proxy for other issues. Economic downturns, racism, linguistic anxiety, college affirmative action, politics, etc. Scapegoating. Easy targets. Vulnerable populations.

Shift

The Frame of Reference
Usually rhetoric around immigration centers on the legal or economic. Important, but I would like to call for a shift in the discussion, from the legal or economic to the educational, moral, humanistic. Also, view this issue as much more complex, one that should not be centered on individuals, but seen through a complex lens.
Look at what the Catholic church is doing. Mass on the border. Pope. etc.

Challenges

Education & Access
Legislative impact on schools: Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, California, etc.
Anxiety, Migrant students, language and culture, shrunken pipeline.
Unsustainable.

Opportunity

Myths & Human Stories
Opportunity. Let's not view this community as a burden but as a blessing. Let's debunk myths. Put a human face on the issue. Human stories. This might appeal to people in the struggle for change.
