BACKGROUND

  • Born sep 9, 1890 in Henryville, in
  • His father died at 6 causing him to have to learn how to cook for his siblings
  • Sanders dropped out in 6th grade but later in his life he attended la salle extension university to study law
  • When he was 16 he joined the army

JOBS

  • Sanders had a plethora of jobs before his success in kfc
  • As a boy he worked at multiple farms as a farm hand, when he returned from Cuba where he had been with the army he worked as a fireman with multiple railroad companies
  • He took up law and overnight learned it but got into a fight with one of his clients, he sold insurance for mutual life and. Prudential but was fired from both jobs, he then was appointed secretary of the chamber of commerce in Indiana but he resigned from that job
  • He sold tires and managed a store for Michelin and was salesman of the year but they closed they're New Jersey station so he lost his job
  • He met the owner of standard oil who asked him to service a station which ended up closing due to the Great Depression
  • Shell then offered him a station in Kentucky rent free if he gave them a percentage of sells, he then started selling chicken out of the store

LATE LIFE

  • In 1952 he franchised his chicken to a group of investors who had huge success with it
  • Don Anderson a sign painter coined the name Kentucky fried chicken
  • Sanders court and cafe was closed due to no business
  • He traveled the statesu looking for good restaurant locations to sell his chicken to
  • In 1962 he sold the Kentucky fried chicken corporation for 2 million
  • He released a book titled "life as I know it has been finger lickin good"
  • In June of 1980 he was diagnosed with acute lukemia he died of pneumonia at the age of 90 on December 16, he is buried today at the cave hill cemetery in Louisville
  • Sanders had two daughters Margaret sanders and Mildred sanders ruggles
