PRESENTATION OUTLINE
James Oglethorpe was the founder of Georgia. He was born in Surrey. He was a British General and also a Member of Parliament
Georgia was the last colony to be established by the English. It was founded to protect South Carolina from invasions of Spaniards from Florida. James Oglethorpe also wanted to find a refuge for the persecuted Protestants.
The people who ended up settling there were the farmers and slaves. The land was great for agriculture so it was a very productive colony. There also was a very diverse population.
Georgia had great weather for farming. It also had rich soil for growing crops. Georgia had a much warmer climate and shorter winters than colonies farther north.
Georgia was concentrated on agriculture. Georgia exported goods such as tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, fruit, and livestock. Agriculture is how Georgia made most of its income.
Religion was not great emphasized in Georgia. There was a lot of religious freedom. This gave the Baptists, Anglicans, and others freedom to worship how they would like.
Georgia was governed as a royal colony. A royal colony was a colony ruled by officials appointed by Great Britain. The royal colonies had a representative assembly that was elected by the people.
