FOUNDER
Rhode Island was founded by Rodger Williams.
He founded Rhode Island in 1636.
He set the state up based on the principles of religious freedom and representative government.

REASONS FOR BEING FOUNDED
Williams believed that people should not be presecuted for their religious practices.
Government should not force people to worship,in a certain way.
Williams also believed that is was wrong for settlers to take land aways from the natives.

WHO SETTLED IN RHODE ISLAND
Indgenous people settled in Rhode Island
Some of the first settlers in Providence.
Also some of the first European settlers.

CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY
It is the smallest of all 50 states.
Much of Rhode Island is Woodland, lowlands in the South, and rolling hills in the North and the West.
It has a humid climate, with cold winters and medium summers, and an average temperature of 50 degrees ferinheitt.

ECONOMY
Rhode Island's economy was based on industry, agriculture, fishing, and mining.
The leading manufactured products were jewelry, silverware, machinery, textiles, and metals.
Tourism, and gambling play an important part in Rhode Island's economy.

RELIGION
All religion was accepted in Rhode Island.
Christians, Lutherans, Anglicans, and Protestants moved to Rhode Island.
However, Rhode Island was predominantly Quaker, Presbyterian, Puritans and Catholics.

POLITICS
Rhode Island elections have been dominated by the Rhode Island democratic party.
It has comprehensive health insurance for low income children and a large social safety net.
Rhode Island Republican Party is virtually non - existent.
