Winters were shorter and milder then English winters. Summers were long hot and humid, perfect for growing crops

Most people who settled here were Quakers, French, Jews and Huguenots.

Religion in South Carolina was free, John Locke wrote "seven or more persons agreeing in religion shall constitute a church" and that "no person shall use any abusive language against another church.
