COLONIAL TERMS

MERCANTILISM

  • A way for countries to get rich by controlling trade

TRIANGULAR TRADE

  • A version of the triangular trade is one that began in New England
  • New England traded rum for slaves on the West African coast then sold them in the West Indies for molasses

THE GREAT AWAKENING

  • A Christian movement that happened in the American colonies
  • Ministers held revivals where colonists experienced what they called a Great Awakening in there religious lives
  • Many Priests believed that colonists were losing there religious faith

ENLIGHTENMENT

  • A movement that began in Europe, as people began examining the natural world, society, and government.
  • These thinkers studied human nature and suggested ways to improve their world.

SCIENTIFIC REVOLUTION

  • Period of great learning where European scientists, mathematicians, and astronomers looked for explanations about how the universe worked.
