MERCANTILISM

  • Most western European countries practiced this
  • England did
  • It is the practice of creating and maintaining wealth by controlling trade

Triangular Trade

  • several different routes
  • fish, grain, beef and horses to plantation owners in the West Indies
  • ^in exchange, they got sugar and molasses
  • goods and slaves went among the colonies, England, West Indies and West Africa

The Great Awakening

  • colonists were losing faith
  • early 1700's (1730's and 1740's)
  • revivals- emotional gatherings
  • Christian movement

Enlightenment

  • Age of Reason
  • 1700s movement
  • People began examining the natural world, society and government

Scientific Revolution

  • 1600s
  • periods of great learning
  • European scientists, mathematicians and astronomers
  • Explanations for how the universe worked
