BERLIN CONFERENCE

  • Africa was states instead of countries.
  • Point was to end slavery.
  • Britain owned half of Africa. And lots of other countries owned some part of Africa.
  • Had to chose religion like some chose catholic.

EUROPEAN IMPERIALISM

  • Europe wanted better industrial.
  • So they could get copper, cotton, and iron.
  • So they could have more power.
  • Europe wanted more land.

IMPERIALISTIC METHODS

  • Europeans died from deceases.
  • Had to fight with swords.
  • Europeans took America because was easier than taking Africa.
  • Lots of wars took place.

END OF COLONIALISM

  • Ethiopia the only free native state.
  • Half a million died from wars for independence.
  • Egypt won independence from revolting from Britain.
  • Liberia was founded from Americans and slaves were free.

LASTING EFFECTS

  • Civil war in Sudan.
  • Was over Muslims and Christians.
  • Started when south was beginning in northern control.
  • The settlement of the war seemed impossible because of cultural and economic problems.
