The alpine life zone is 11,000+ ft above sea level. It is the highest life zone. No trees grow in the alpine life zone. The ground is frozen year round.

Most of the animals that live there, are summer visitors, such as chipmunks, ground squirrels, marmots, elk, and rocky mountain bighorn sheep. The animals that live there year round are pika and ptarmigan.
