  • Colored pencils: your best tool in applying basic rendering
  • Light tonals are used for a soft look
  • Layering with heavy pressure to burnish
  • Hatching and crosshatching for linear effect
  • Or a combination of all styles in ensuring the right texture and effect.

TIPS FOR WORKING WITH COLORED PENCILS

  • Most styles requires a sharp point
  • Your stroke has an effect on your pencil's sharpness
  • Be patient. Draw using layers.
  • Light strokes give you a chance to erase fully.
  • Work with a good light source.

  • When you sharpen your pencil, wipe the tip off a soft cloth
  • Create a notebook to test a sample of all your colors
  • Prefer a paper with good texture and quality. Smooth ones don't work
  • Practice different color strokes.
