YEARS THEY WHERE IN TEXAS
FARMING, GATHERING, HUNTING
- They were hunters and gatherers.
- Men hunted buffalo and other animals.
- Women gathered plants and most food.
Children played with each other, went to school and helped around the house. Many Comanche children liked to go hunting and fishing with their fathers. Kids did have dolls, toys, and games to play like hoop game.
CLOTHING
- The women wore deerskin or broadcloth dresses.
- Also, wore moccasins that came up to calf level.
- The men wore
- headdress was a cap with eagle feathers and tails trailing behind it.
The Comanche group would sell or trade items that they had stolen. They sold the stolen horses, women and children they had kidnapped. The relatives of the women and children would come to fairs to buy them back. This kidnapping for payment would later get the Comanche group in big trouble with the American settlers.
Comanche men usually had pierced ears with hanging earrings made from pieces of shell or loops of brass or silver wire. A female relative would pierce the outer edge of the ear with six or eight holes. The men also tattooed their face, arms, and chest with geometric designs, and painted their face and body.
Comanche means "enemy" in the Comanche Language. They call themselves "Numinu" (the people).
