PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHO AM I?

AND WHY SHOULD YOU LISTEN TO ME?
My name is Peter McKiernan. I am a communications and marketing consultant in the Seattle area.

I have also been a product manager, business manager, and executive communications manager.

MY PAST

IT HAS CAUGHT UP WITH ME (BUT I'M OK WITH THAT)
My background spans several arenas, starting with theatrical design and production and then adding an MBA and over a decade in tech marketing.

My unique value? I am creative AND analytic. I like solving a design challenge as much as I like analyzing data.

The result? A fresh perspective.

WHAT GETS ME OUT OF BED IN THE MORNING?

SPOILER ALERT: IT'S NOT JUST AN ALARM CLOCK.
It's an overused word but presentations are my passion.

In theater I liked translating ideas into moments on stage. In business I like doing the same.

Bad presentations make me itch. I like teaching people a better way.

Sometimes this compulsion feels a bit, "With great power comes great responsibility," but I have a hard time taking myself that seriously.

(Plus its a lot harder to find radioactive spiders than you might think.)

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT HAIKU DECK

CLARITY

I believe simplicity and focus are the key to communication.

Let's face it, if YOU don't know what you are talking about then all the marketing BS in the world will not help you get your point across,

Clarity must come first.

Creating with Haiku Deck involves very little futzing, so you can spend more time on your message. I like that.

VISUAL AMPLIFICATION

THIS ONE GOES TO 11
A good idea coupled with creative design is the shortest path to turning heads and changing minds.

99% of the time you are expected to show up with slides, so make sure they amplify your point!*

Haiku deck's focus on compelling imagery makes this easier for designers and non-designers alike. I like that too.

* Too often they are used to obscure it.

These posts are the bones of a book I’m working on. I hope to have it wrapped up and published by next year.

ELMORE LEONARD
I was tempted to blather on about my résumé and experience, but Elmore was right.

But if you are really interested you can look me up on LinkedIn.
