Statistics

  • In 2011, 23% of crashes involved cellphones
  • 1.3 million crashes
  • 34% say they have texted while driving
  • 52% say they have talked on a cellphone while driving
  • 55% of teen drivers say its easy to text while they drive

  • 48% of kids are in a car while driver is texting
  • 1 in 5 drivers confessed to surfing the web while driving
  • 10 states prohibit all drivers from using cellphones
  • 77% of teens are confident that they can text & drive
  • 13% of drivers 18-20 involved in car wrecks were texting

Ways for it to stop

  • Ignore when getting text or call
  • If passenger on board tell them to check the text
  • Raise the fine
  • Have cops station on main streets

Plan to stop this

  • Motivate the driver to not text
  • Think about his & others lives
  • Parents don't text your teens while their driving
  • Teens turn off phones. Let voicemail capture calls & texts
  • Put cellphone out of reach.
