L3C: Low-profit Limited Liability

  • The L3C is like an LLC formed for social benefit
  • Specifically, charitable/educational works
  • May be a solo business or a nonprofit subsidiary
  • May have nonprofit member(s)
  • Cannot have a legislative or political purpose

B "Benefit" Corps

  • A corporation with additional certification
  • Social and environmental standards
  • Accountability and transparency standards
