101

The Basics

  • LAN
  • MAN
  • SAN
  • WAN
  • OSI Model

The Basics 2

  • Networking terminology
  • Networking History

Local Area Network

  • computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area
  • LIKE,  home, school, and using network media
  • Also, computer laboratory, or office buildings

Metropolitan Area Network

  • MAN is a large computer network that spans a metropolitan area or campus
  • Its geographic scope falls between all networks; LAN and SAN
  • MAN connects LAN to SAN and WAN

Storage Area Network

  • SAN is a high-speed network of storage devices
  • SAN also connects those storage devices with servers

Wide Area Network

  • WAN covers a broad area
  • Like metropolitan, regional boundaries
  • Also, national or international boundaries

OSI/IP Model

Networking Terminology

  • Networking Devices
  • Networking Topology
  • Broadcast/Token Pass
  • VPN

Networking Devices

  • Networking devices are authentication, authorization, and accounting(AAA)
  • which AAA service requests are attempted
  • for example, switches, routers, and so on.
  • Also, phones, games, laptops, pc, ext.

Networking Topology

  • N.T. is the arrangement of the various elements

Broadcast/Token Pass

  • A token is passed between nodes that authorizes the node to communicate
  • refers to transmitting a packet that will be received by every device

VPN

  • VPN uses a public telecommunication infrastructure
  • Provides remote offices or individual users with secure access

Compter History I

  • 1977
  • Apple creates first microcomputer

Computer History II

  • 1981
  • IBM's first computer

2000's

  • Computer technology is advancing
  • It will always grow and expand
  • Computer's will consume the world
