Conflicts over Ideas: North and South Korea
World War II divided Korea into a northern Communist half and a non-Communist American occupied southern half. Also, North Korea is atheist and South Korea has a mix of religions. Their differences made North Korea want to start a war with South Korea. The Korean War began in 1950 when the North Korean army crossed the 38th Parallel and invaded South Korea.
North Korea and South Korea, they have different ideas and North Korea declared war on South Korea. The United States helped South Korea during the war.
The Korean War ended in July 1953. Five million soldiers and civilians lost their lives during the war. The Korean peninsula is still divided today.
Change Brought To That Region
Both North and South Korea suffered damage to their economies and infrastructure as a result of bombings. They both also lost lots of people. South Korea was able to modernize and industrialize with the help of the United States. North Korea's economy got weak because of the fighting and has remained weak since then.
