CONFUCIUS

EARLY LIFE

  • Confucius was born in 551 B.C. in Lu State
  • His father died when he was only 3
  • Lived with his mother in poverty
  • Married at 19

POLITICAL CAREER

  • By 501 B.C. Confucius was well known for his teachings.
  • This helped him become the governor of a small town
  • He eventually rose to the position of Minister of Crime

IS IT A RELIGION?

  • Confucianism if followed by some Chinese as a religion.
  • There are many arguments over wether its a religion or not
  • His teachings discuss a little about afterlife and heaven
  • Most of his teachings focus around things like the nature of souls

WHAT IS HE KNOWN FOR

  • Had a large impact on social & political life in China, Vietnam & Japan
  • Ideas of philosophy
  • Considered a profit of Ahmadiyya Muslims
  • Chinese politician

CONFUCIANISM

  • Confucius referred to himself as a "transmitter who invented nothing"
  • Moral teaching included:
  • Self-cultivation
  • Emulation of moral exemplars
  • attainment of skilled judgment rather than knowledge of rules

CONFUCIANISM

  • Teachings were widely listened to when he was alive
  • His teachings were later collected
  • The collected works were turned into a set of rules
  • Disciples carried on his philisophicall school
  • Efforts to spread his teachings educated people across the world

  • Looked for positivity in his life

  • He had disciples and followers

DEATH

  • Died in 479 BC
  • 73 years old
  • Died of natural causes

  • Gained some fame at 30
  • Most fame came in his 50s
  • His teachings reached around the world after he died
  • His teachings still continue to impact peoples lives
