PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Coniferous Forest (or Taiga) by:Sydney Olson
The coniferous forest is mainly located in North America, Europe and Asia
The climate is cool with high precipitation
Some animals that live here are deer, moose and elk.
Others are squirrels, jays and ermine.
Finally, there are bears.
THE KIND OF TREES IN THE TAIGA ARE PINE
These trees never lose their leaves, and never have to regrow them because that takes energy
The pine tree's needles are dark and absorb sunlight.
Birds also fly south avoid cold weather.
Those are all examples of adaptations.
The deer, rodents, birds and insects all eat the trees and are connected by that.
The rodent is eaten by the fox,the bear and the owl.
There are several reasons why this wonderful habitat should be protected.
First, in Canada 1 acre of coniferous forests is being cut down every 12.9 seconds.
Second the trees take a long time to regrow because of the short growing season.
Finally some of the species found within the forest are irreplaceable.
Such as the giant sequoia trees.
These trees are huge. They are known as the biggest in the world.
