PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CONTINENTAL DRIFT

BY: CORBAN HUTTON

FOSSILS

  • Plant and animal fossils were found on continents too far to swim
  • An example would be the Mesosaurus, found on both South
  • America, and South Africa
  • These two continents also seem to coincidentally fit together

PUZZLE

  • The continents' coastlines appear to fit together
  • almost like a puzzle.
  • South Africa and South America are two examples

Glaciers
Glacial scratches on southern continents seem to move downwards toward Antarctica's current position, implying that Antarctica used to be much further north.

Convection
The plates that Wegener theorized about were proven to be moving by Arthur Holmes. Holmes figured that the plates moved off the convection currents, caused by the heated magma rising up, then cooling, then settling down again.
