Diet Claims

  • "eat cookies instead of meals- and watch the pounds melt away"
  • "Lose 10-15 pounds per month without hungers pangs"

Suspicions

  • Although you get to eat cookies, it is only a limited amount per snack and meal.
  • This diet is very low calorie- people will get hungry and bored with eating the same thing every day.

What to eat

  • Cookies!
  • The special cookies are high in fiber and protein- eat cookies for every meal (except dinner) and snacks.
  • Dinner is anything you want (500-700 calories)

Compared to the Food Pyramid

  • This diet is a meal replacement diet- replacing all your meals (fruits, vegetables, meat, etc) with cookies and cutting down on calories would not give you the full nutrients and healthy diet you need.

Reasons people would fall for the claims:

  • People like the idea that eating cookies could result in quick weight loss
  • (However, it is not just any random chocolate chip cookie- it is a special cookie with lots of fiber and protein)

Long Term Health Issues

  • Diet cuts calorie amount per day to about 800.
  • Not safe to eat only cookies and get such low calories for a long time period.

Facts

  • Dr. Siegal's cookie diet is the most popular on the market
  • The Cookie diet is dated back to 1975
