When you use a recipe to prepare or cook something, there may be words that have a special meaning--just for cooking.

Slice: to cut something thin

Looks different than chopping or cutting.

bite-size

Bite-sized: it can fit into your mouth

All parts of the salad should be bite-sized.

tear

Tear: to pull apart

Tear, instead of cut, bite-size pieces of lettuce.

Tossed

Toss: to lightly mix

You toss a salad to mix the dressing in.

Squeeze

Squeeze: to add pressure

When you squeeze a lime, the juice comes out.

drain

Drain: to empty the liquid out

When you drain the corn, you pour out the liquid from the can.
