COOKING TERMS

BLEND

  • Definition -
  • To combine 2+ ingredients until smooth & uniform in
  • texture, flavor, and color; may be done by hand with
  • an electric blender or mixer.
  • Refers to incorporate 2+ ingredients thoroughly.

MARINATE

  • Definition -
  • to add flavor to food such as meat, poultry, seafood or veggables.
  • Note: Dry marinade mixtures composed of spicesor they may b
  • rubbed into meat, poultry, or seafood.
  • Example/refers to - you marinate your meat.

DREDGE

  • Definition -
  • To sprinkle or coat with flour or other fine substance.
  • Referred to as breading.

STEEP

  • Definition -
  • To extract color, flavor, or other qualities from a substance
  • by leaving it in water just below the boiling point.
  • Refers to steeping tea.

SAUTE

  • Definition -
  • To cook and/or brown food in a small amount og hot fat.
  • Refers to frying.
