WHat is abstinence?

  • It's when you do not have any form of sexual activity.
  • It's a self-enforced restraint from indulging in bodily activities that are widely experienced as giving pleasure.
  • The term refers to sexual abstinence or from alcohol or food.

What is Abstinence

  • It is when you make a promise not to do something that can put your self a risk.
  • It can also represent smoking, fasting, drinking and drugs.

  • In 2008, there were an estimated 110 million prevalent STIs among women and men in the U.S.
  • The total estimated direct cost of STIs annually in the U.S. is $15.6 billion.
  • Each year, one in four teens contracts an STD/STI.

  • More than half of all people will have an STI at some point in their lifetime.

  • 3 in 10 teen American girls will get pregnant at least once before age 20.
  • More than 50% of teen mothers never graduate from high school.
  • Less than 2% of teen moms earn a college degree by age 30.

  • 8 out of 10 teen dads don’t marry the mother of their child.
  • In 2008, the teen pregnancy rate among African-American and Hispanic teen girls, ages 15 to 19, was over two and a half times higher than the teen pregnancy rate among white teen girls of the same age group.

The cost of being a teen parent

  • You can expect to earn $28,000 or less in the 15 years after birth. Fathers of children born to teen mothers who were 17 and under earn $27,000 or less over the period of 18 years than those who have children with women who were 20 or 21.

  • If you are to have sex always where protection.
  • Do not have sex if you or your partner is not ready.
  • Before having sex, talk with a trusted adult. Ex. older sister, brother or aunt and also your mother and father.

  • When saying ''NO'' make sure to be serious and let the guy or girl know that you mean what you say.
