Spanish fashion businessman and founding chairman of the inditex fashion group. Best known for its chain of Zara clothing and accessories retail shops.
Currently the Inditex group is the first textile group in the world and integrates several fashion brands besides Zara, such as Pull & Bear, Bershka, Oysho, Massimo Dutti and Stradivarius, all with the idea of offering fashion at a low price, available for any pocket . Another of his secret is to practice the relocation of the producing industries to other countries outside of Spain for a higher profit. It also plays an important role that Amancio Ortega is, they say, a man of simple habits, not eccentric at all and not likely to go out at parties or appearing on the media.
Ortega founded fast-fashion giant Zara with his then wife Rosalia in 1975. Today, his retail company Intidex SA — which owns Zara, as well as Massimo Dutti and Pull&Bear — has over 6,600 outposts around the world. Zara in and of itself is changing retail forever.
After Gates and Slim comes Amancio Ortega, who built the world’s largest fashion empire, Zara. He’s difficult to know, impossible to interview, and incredibly secretive.
