Definition of Bullying

  • This definition includes three important components: 1. Bullying is aggressive behavior that involves unwanted, negative actions. 2. Bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time. 3. Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength.

The Types of Bullying

  • Bullying can take many forms, but it usually includes the following types of behavior:
  • Physical
  • Verbal
  • Indirect
  • Cyber Bullying

Physical Bullying

  • Physical bullying is when one person or a group of people picks on or harasses another person in a face to face confrontational manner. It can be subtle actions to casually degrade the person over time, or it can be a series of more aggressive and direct acts to purposefully hurt the person in a more immediate fashion.

Verbal Bullying

  • Verbal bullying is a means of using words in a negative way such as insults, teasing, put downs, etc., to gain power over someone else's life.

Indirect Bullying

  • Indirect bullying is spreading nasty stories about someone, exclusion from social groups, being made the subject of malicious rumors, sending abusive mail, and email and text messages (cyber bullying).

Cyber-Bullying

  • Cyber-bullying is when someone or a group of people harasses someone else online by sending or posting mean messages, usually anonymously.

Statistics on Bullying

  • It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students. Source: National Education Association.
  • 1 in 7 Students in Grades K-12 is either a bully or a victim of bullying.

Reasons Why

  • Lack of attention from friends, parents or teachers can make a person bully you, just to feel popular and seen as ‘tough’ or ‘cool’ and in charge.
  • Bad up-bringing at home can make people insensitive to other people's feelings and emotions. They are happy to see their classmate depressed, sad and hurt.

Reasons Why

  • Some kids have learned bullying from others (parents, brothers or sisters, friends).They have seen them getting their way by being angry or pushing other people around. They believe that by putting fear in you, they will have the best shot at things they want.

Ways School can Stop Bullying

  • There should be campaigns or seminar that the kids has to take a part in.
  • There should be posters up in the hallways that talks about bullying, and the effects that it has on others.
  • There also should be posters that talks about the consequence students will get if they bully someone. For example, they will have to help the janitors clean the school.

How to Prevent Physical Bullying

  • If you're a victim of physical bullying you can tell a trusted adult like a counselor.
  • If you're someone who has witness someone being bullied don't just watch it happen or walk on by do something about it. You can tell them to stop or go and tell a teacher.

How to Prevent Indirect Bullying

  • If you're a victim of indirect bullying find someone else who is going through the same thing, and stick together
  • If you're a witness of someone who is being indirectly bullied befriend them, and make them know that they are not alone.
  • When you hear something about someone and you know it's wrong make sure everyone knows it.

How to Prevent Cyber-Bullying

  • If you are being bullied online anonymously you should just ignore it or deletle your account if your can't handle it.
  • If you thing you know who it is just block them
  • If you see someone bullied online, you should help them out, and say something to the bully to stop.

What could happen if you bully someone

  • Any type of bullying can cause extreme consequences.
  • That person you hurt can become depress and they might end up trying or sucseedding at comment suicide.
  • They will feel lonely, and they might end up lashing out to those who bully them. They might come to school with a gun intnding to hurt those who hurt them.
