TUNDRA

WERE TUNDRAS ARE LOCATED

  • Tundras are located at the top of the world near the North Pole.

ANIMALS THAT LIVE IN TUNDRAS

  • One of the animals that lives there is the arctic fox. It can be from 46-68 centimeters tall. The polar bear also lives there. The polar bear eats large and small animals, fish, birds, berries and leaves.

ANIMALS THAT LIVE IN TUNDRAS

  • Another animal that lives there is The snowy owl. It eats small animals. Caribou live in tundras, they are 1.2-2.2 meters long. Musk Ox can also be found there. They eat grasses, moss, lichen and leaves.

TUNDRAS CLIMATE

  • Tundras climate can be up to -60 degrees during the winter and a high of 50 degrees during the summer.

  • The landscape of tundras are usually icy, rocky,and mostly treeless plains.

  • Tundras soil has what is called permafrost witch means the soil is permanently frozen.

PLANTS THAT GROW IN TUNDRAS

  • One plants that grows in tundras are bear berries. They are bears favorite fruit. Another plant is caribou moss. It can grow on both the ground and rocks. Another one is Labrador tea which can grow to be 4-5 feet tall.

  • Arctic moss 75% of it is covered by permafrost.The diamond leaf willow is another plant that grows in tundras and are easily bent.

FACTS ABOUT TUNDRAS

  • 1.Tundras only get an average of 10 inches of rain per year
  • 2.Permafrost is usually 1 meter of the surface.
  • 3.The word tundra comes from the word tunturia which means treeless land.
  • 4.There are about 400 different plants that grow in tundras and 48 different animals that live in tundras.
  • 5.The average annual temperature of tundras is 10 to 20 degrees F
