The genocide in Rwanda was one of the bloodiest episodes of history.
From 6 April to mid-July 1994 about 500,000 people were massacred.
The victims were predominantly Tutsi.
The Tutsi were a minority compared to the Hutus, while the Twa were a different group still less numerous.
You could go from one group to another.
The difference was mainly social.
But it was not definitive, anyone could improve their condition.
After bloody riots and massacres, the Hutu took power in 1959-1962 and began the long persecution of Tutsis.
The Rwandan economy is based on small farms that practice subsistence farming.
The cultivation of tea and coffee are very important.
Major exports are coffee, tea, tin, cassiterite and pyrethrum .
Recently there have been major investments in tourism and in the development of new industries.
