CRYSTAL METH

  • This drug is based off of speed
  • Made from Methamphetamine and Amphetamine

HISTORY

  • Methamphetamine was made in 1991 in Japan
  • Amphetamine was first made in 1887 in Germany

PRICE OF CRYSTAL METH

  • $20 for 1/4 of a gram
  • $40 for 1/2 of a gram
  • Addicts spend $150 to $200 a day

STIMULANT

  • Crystal meth is an intensive stimulant with disinhibitory qualities
  • Methamphetamine releases high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine
  • Similar to cocaine, methamphetamine also blocks the reuptake of dopamine

TIME PERIODS

  • amphetamine is also an active metabolite of methamphetamine, peaking in blood levels in roughly 12 hours
  • methamphetamine has a half-life of roughly 4 to 5 hours
  • Excretion occurs primarily in the urine and is dependent on urine pH. Approximately 62% of an oral dose is eliminated in the urine within the first 24 hours with about one-third as intact drug and the remainder as metabolites

INFORMATION ABOUT CRYSTAL METH

  • Crystal meth is smoked in a manner similar to crack cocaine
  • Street names for this form of methamphetamine include “ice”, “crystal”, “crank”, and “glass”.
  • Methamphetamine is a synthetic (man-made) chemical, unlike cocaine, for instance, which comes from a plant. Meth is commonly manufactured in illegal, hidden laboratories, mixing various forms of amphetamine (another stimulant drug) or derivatives with other chemicals to boost its potency.

SIDE AFFECTS

  • Meth can cause serious brain damage to a human being
  • Users of meth usually lose the ability to remember things and even can lose things learned from the past like how to tie your shoe
  • tweaking is the stage of meth which is right towards the end which leads to the misuse of words in a sentence and also the inability to do things correctly like read and write.

MORE SIDE AFFECTS

  • Even walking can seem funny in the tweaking stage
  • People are able to determine ones use of meth by finding needle marks
  • Visible nerves and veins begin to sprout also many people end up getting rashes and can even lead to self destruction of skin cells

METH FACTS

  • Over 13 million people over the age of twelve have either tried or are addicted to methamphetamine
  • In the U.S the percentage from 1996 which was only 5% rose to almost 10% by 2007
  • Hawaii was mostly know for meth users.

MORE METH FACTS

  • Almost 44% of the people in rehab for eight her drug abuse or any kind of abuse was in for the abuse of methamphetamine.
  • In 2007 4.5% of American high school students have reportedly tried meth and approximately 4.1% of tenth graders were the ones who reportedly used/tried the drug.
  • Some users may take more than 3 hits per day for a year which can lead to homelessness.

TYPE OF DRUG

  • Meth is classified as a Schedule II drug
  • it has high potential for abuse and is available only through a prescription that cannot be refilled.
  • Possession of methamphetamines is generally charged as a felony,

JAIL TIME

  • Federal law requires a minimum prison sentence of 5 years for possession of any amount over 5 grams, and a maximum sentence of 40 years
  • If convicted of possession of 50 grams or over, the mandatory minimum sentence is 10 years, and the maximum is life
  • Fines can range anywhere from tens of thousands of dollars, to millions of dollars.
