PEFC Distinctives:

Missions and Evangelistic Outreach

“Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t…. (missions) is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.”

“A disciple of Jesus, then, is someone who learns the gospel, relates in the gospel, and communicates the gospel.”

We desire to aggressively participate in compassionately reaching our world with the Gospel of Christ, beginning with our families, neighbors, and friends.
This is done through financial and prayerful support of our missionaries, providing tangible needs for the suffering, and working with like-minded congregations in our community to complete the task of reaching others for Christ. We will look for new and creative expressions to this end.

Not that every
conversation we must force some Christian cliche but proof that even the most simple or brief interactions can have lasting impact.

II. The Great COMMISSIONS Response:

Acts 1:1-11

The Holy Spirit is not someone to be depended on as if He were a luxury but He is a necessity.

The mission starts right where they are and moves further and further, even to the "end of the earth."

I am convinced that the church that does the most missional good outside of themselves is first convinced and passionate about the mission field in their
own backyard.

“The light that shines the farthest will shine the brightest at home.”

III. Contextual Missions at Home:

Acts 17: 16-21

There are people for us to interact with at official buildings and locations but also simple place like the market, the grocery store, the gas station.

Paul is not of the world but he is not ignorant of the world around him, their desires,
where they hangout, what they value.

There is an unknown. Something missing inside of them that can only be answered through the gospel.

IV. So WHat?

1 Peter 3:15

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

“Consider scattering over gathering… it would make more sense in our current context to do less gathering and more scattering. We are beyond the place where saying “Everyone come!” will bring unbelievers to a gathering.
Churches need to have more of a “Lets go!” mentality.”
