PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CYTOPLASM

MADISON LENGEL & MEG TEMPLETON

MAIN FUNCTIONS

  • Transports almost all things through the cell
  • Protects cells genetic material
  • Holds organelles in place
  • Provides protection incase of collision

LESSER KNOWN FUNCTIONS

  • Gives shape to the cell.
  • Includes enzyme that break down
  • macromolecules to be used for other things.
  • Biochemicl reaction takes place in cytoplasm

THREE MAIN PARTS

  • Cytosol
  • Organelles
  • Inclusions

CYTOSOL

  • Fluid portion of cytoplasm
  • It is located outside the nucleus
  • Mostly water and some dissolved ions
  • May also contain protein
  • Fluid of cytoplasm, while cytoplasm is all that is in the cell

ORGANELLES

  • Structure in cell that performs a specific function
  • They carry out many functions
  • Examples: mitochondria, chloroplast

INCLUSIONS

  • Contained within cell membrane
  • Used as storage unit in cell
  • Also used for energy

HISTORY

  • The cell was discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665
  • Cytoplasm was discovered by Robert Brown in 1831
  • Got its actual name in 1874

DISEASES

  • ANCA Vasculitis
  • Caused when immune system causes vasculitis
  • Attacks inside cell (cytoplasm) of white blood cells
